Public Sociology. Ethnography. Community. Engagement.
Urban Environments.
As a public urban sociologist, I am passionate about studying people, environments and communities, comparing that with what we already know to create new perspectives on our society and sharing that with both the academic and public world.
|
I teach my students how we can understand our society and encourage them as well as myself to make that knowledge practical, applicable and useful on the ground via service learning and experiential learning.

Princeton's Mellon Forum on the Urban Environment: Predatory Development And Climate ChangeWith Dr.Knittle, I discussed how Black urban communities and communities in poverty are fighting the triple threat of gentrification, unemployment and climate change through local movements that advocate for more equitable forms of renewal. Jackson and Knittle will talk about how contemporary calls for urban transformation are tasked with facilitating large-scale transformation that helps prepare for environmental uncertainty without repeating past violence against marginalized communities.
